Medical Weight Loss Consultation: What to Expect
By Joanna Ferris, RN · June 8, 2026 · 4 min read
A medical weight loss consultation isn't a sales appointment for a product. It's a medical review to determine whether a supervised program is a good fit for you and, if so, what that program would look like.
What we cover at consultation
- Your medical history and current health conditions
- Current medications, supplements, and allergies
- Previous weight loss attempts and how they went
- Your goals — realistic, personal, and time-based
- Lifestyle factors that support or work against your goals
What happens after
If medical weight loss is a reasonable option for you, we'll walk through what a program involves, expected follow-up cadence, and what success looks like. If it isn't the right fit, we'll be honest about that too — a good program starts by ruling out what shouldn't be prescribed.
What to bring
- A list of your current medications and supplements
- Any recent bloodwork if you have it
- Notes on any previous weight management approaches
- Questions — anything at all
Nothing is prescribed at the same visit as your consultation. There is time to think and decide.
Ongoing support
Any medical weight loss program includes follow-up. Rate of change, side effects, and adjustments are reviewed at each visit. This isn't a prescription-and-goodbye service — supervision is the whole point.
